A truck topper, also referred to as a camper shell or lid, may add functionality plus secure storage to your truck. But if one of the windows on the side of the topper is broken, then the safety is gone and the final contents within are at risk for theft. If you are able to get yourself a replacement window and a bit of assistance, you can replace the window with very little effort. 

Open the back window on the truck topper, drop the tailgate and crawl within  the bed of the truck so that you are facing the window you need to replace. Have your assistant face opposite you on the outside of the window. Unbolt the window from the topper using a 3/8-in. ratchet plus socket. Have your assistant hold the window as you take away the bolts, then have him pull the window back away from the vehicle once every bolt has been removed. Have your assistant elevate the replacement window in place on the topper. Bolt it in the proper place using the initial hardware and the ratchet. Make sure to not over-tighten any bolts, or you risk cracking the window. 

Trucks have experienced a bit of a renaissance in recent years. No longer are they simply the workhorse of the farm or tool for the contractor; they are even family vehicles with area for kids plus soft suspensions. But those families with trucks are now discovering what many truck owners have known for years–cargo isn’t secure from theft unless the bed has some type of cover on it. That is where a truck topper, or camper shell, comes into play. It’s simple to install plus it may make the truck a little more useful and a little more like an SUV. 

Clear any load out from the bed of the truck. Be sure it’s totally clear you put in the topper. Lift the shell with the help of your assistants. Truck toppers can be pretty heavy, thus try to distribute the load evenly among both of you. Place the shell on the bed rails of the truck, plus try to push it toward the front of the bed as far as possible. 

Crawl within the bed and place the J-hook mounting bolts over the inside lip of the camper. The hook must clamp the lip of the camper shell to the lip of the bed rail, therefore be certain that  it holds against each surface before you tighten it up. Loosely tighten the hooks along with your hand. Crawl of the the camper plus make sure the topper is aligned with the vehicle. It must fit well on the bed, and not hang off one direction or another. Crawl within the bed plus tighten the J-hooks using the 3/8-inch ratchet and sockets. Be certain the bolts are secure prior to driving the vehicle.
