Harley Davidson Motorcycles Are Featured at Daytona Bike Week
Daytona, Florida is the popular spot for the annual Daytona Bike Week event, which took place this year from February 27th to March 8th. The longstanding motorcycle tradition was founded in 1937, which was the inaugural running of the Daytona 200. This is a 10 day event that features well over 500,000 people who trek to the Sunshine State from all over the country to showcase their beloved hogs. Harley Davidson is one of the most popular brands of motorcycles on display at the annual eventThe annual event boasts the motorcycles, gear, and Motorcycle helmets of the Harley Davidson company, one of the most popular and successful motorcycle manufacturing companies in the world.
There is motorcycle racing, concerts, parties and street festivals that run all through the week. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the most popular motorcycle rally in the United States, is the final main event of the prestigious Daytona Bike Week. The years of 1942-1947 saw an absence of the Daytona Bike Week rally because of World War II.
The amount of attendees to the Daytona Bike Week grew over the years because of the promotion of William France Sr., the co founder of NASCAR. Because Daytona Bike Week is one large motorcycle showcase, some of the attendees of the event don’t even have a motorcycle but are present for the sheer joy of the event.
Bike helmets are not required by the event but some bikers will wear them to protect themselves or to add another element to their outfit when riding the bike.
The bikers also enjoy showing off their motorcycle gear to the friends that they see only once per year. They might be lucky if they saw their friends more than once during the course of the year.
There are other motorcycle events for people to attend across the country but they aren’t as involved as Daytona Bike Week. Almost all of the other motorcycle events across the country draw anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 people, which is much less than Daytona Bike Week. Motocross gear is available for purchase at the Daytona Bike Week. There have been some problems with fights and other outbursts at Daytona Bike Week over the years that have led to the death of some participants. 2006 saw 20 people die, 2007 saw eight people die, while 2000 saw 15 people die.
